Here is the true story of what happened to the tophat as told to me by a reliable drunk at a bar one night in Park City who said he would tell me if I kept the drinks coming. The hat was stolen by a group of gentiles passing thru Utah in the 19th century. When the Mormon realized they had taken the hat they went after them causing the famous Mountain Meadows Massacre. Once they had it back in their possession they decided they would need a safe place to hide it so they built Saltair amusement park and hid it under the fun house. You can catch a glimpse of it in original version of the movie Carnival of Souls filmed at Saltair. When Saltair closed down they move it to the basement of the ZCMI department store across from the temple. The gentiles wanted to recapture it so they bought the store under the name Meier & Poncho or something like that, now owned by May (or is it June) Dept stores. Macy's wanted to use it in their Thanksgiving Day Parade so they have talk their parent comany Frederated into buying May or June dept. stores in order to obtain the magic hat and keep it out of the hands of Walmart.
All of this as true as the next issue of the Watchtower magazine.

No it wasn't so peaceful before 1914 as pointed out in the above posts. Let's also remember that the watchtower didn't point to 1914 begining of the time of trouble and the year of Christ's return as they now claim. They said it all be over by 1914 and that Christ began his reign in 1874 so nothing they said came to pass.

I'm glad you were able beat your addicition, congratulations. Your mother sounds like a very unhappy person. Only unhappy people become jdubs or go back to it once they have left. I think you did the right thing breaking ties with her if for no other reason than that she allow bad things to happen to you as a child and doesn't seem to have acknowledged it. Years ago while really into the dub thing my brother-in-law asked me a question. He said: "Do you know why Jehovah's Witness go door to door trying to get people to join?" Then he said: "because misery likes company". That statement rattled around my head for years before the truth of it finally surfaced. I think that is what is going on with your mother. She wants company in her misery. If you are a decent person you need people in your life that accept you for who you are without trying to change you to be like them. I'm not saying they have to agree with you, just realize people have different beliefs and interest have the right to do so. This is something jw's don't understand.

I think the more imminent question is what happens when the anointed all keel over? Or that it's simply ludicrous that there are any significant numbers of them still living due to the passage of time? The WTS supposedly represents this class and their authority derives from that arrangement. A new explanation is due very soon.
Are there any of the old buggers left? The hall I went to had two of them. They would now be well over 100 now if they were still alive which they aren't. The "annointed" are supposed to be the ones giving out the meat in due season right? Not once do I every remember them being ask to help prepare the food. Did you ever here of conference being held where the annointed would gather to decide issues. Did anyone who knew any of these people every hear them say they were working on a watchtower article or one of the books? It is a hoax. Only thing they ever did that was different than anyone else was get to eat the cracks and drink the wine once a year. Things like this only make sense when you are brainwashed. If someone told you they were on the board of directors at Ford Motor Co. but for 20 years all you ever saw them do was sweep floors you would think they were delusional. -

I was never a dub. I was just curious what you all thought when you read those two verses?
As a JW you look at the Bible very subjectively. YOu don't look at the Bible to see what it has to say you look at it to back up what the watchtower is telling you it says. The wt tells you that those scriptures didn't refer to his coming in 1914. They refer to his coming at Armageddon. This would be a third coming to any thinking person but as a jw you aren't allowed to think. Why do they still have the memorial if he came in 1914 when he said do this till I come. Again dubs aren't trained to think for themselves so they don't. Witness play a game of Bible hopscotch in order prove their beliefs referencing scriptures that have nothing to do with what they are trying to prove.
In all fairness jws aren't the only ones that do this. I see other religion doing this also, usually with less harmful results but non the less still doing it. On person I read many years ago said he felt that one of the worst things done to the Bible was adding chapter and verse because this encouraged people to view the Bible as individual verses rather than read it in context. -

Nine more years and it will be the 100th anniversary of Christ return and what has he done? Even the Jdubs have got to be starting to wonder if he is just a slow starter or could the WT be wrong. They need a new date but based on what? And how do they get rid of the old one? I guess the could say he started to come back in 1914 but forgot his wallet and had to go back for it.
I don't know how they will do it but I'm sure it is on their minds.
They were able to change the date from 1874 to 1914 without too much fuss.
Any suggestions for a new date? I'm sure they would appreciate the help. -

My last District Convention (I hope) ... observations

i plan on breaking the news to my wife real soon.
nowadays even at the meetings my blood pressure raises and my back gets all tense as i sit and listen to some of the stuff we are supposed to believe.
